STRONG AND RESILIENT WITH CALCIUM

Calcium is crucial for metabolic health! Most calcium in the body is found in bones and teeth. But this important mineral is fundamental to the function of every cell in the body, has a role in nerve cell signalling and much more. If there is not enough calcium in the bloodstream, it is broken down from the bones, which lose strength as a result. That is why a sufficient supply of calcium to the bones is a prerequisite for long-term bone health.

However, the combination of calcium with other nutrients is key: Magnesium, vitamin D and vitamin K ensure that calcium can be absorbed by the body and contribute to the maintenance of healthy bones. In addition, calcium and magnesium are interdependent in many important metabolic processes. That is why it makes sense to take both minerals at the same time.

Eat to get strong!

Staying active and eating a balanced, varied diet are the secret to long-term bone health! That’s why it’s so important to eat healthy. Some foods are particularly beneficial for healthy bones:

Dairy: Dairy products contain calcium with particularly high bioavailability. You can also buy plant based milk enriched with calcium.

Vegetables: Many green vegetables are very rich in calcium, for example broccoli, kale or fennel, but also herbs like chives or cress.

Protein:  Don’t forget proteins: They are the building blocks of our cells, including our bones! How about one of the delicious Unicity protein shakes LC Base or Complete?

THINGS TO AVOID.

Keep an eye on your sugar consumption! It prevents the absorption and metabolisation of minerals and interferes with vitamin D metabolism. In addition, sugar is one of the main factors in obesity, which can put a strain on bones and joints. Nicotine and alcohol also harm bone health because they hinder the metabolisation of minerals. Many drinks and liquors also contain a large amount of sugar.

Foods with artificial phosphate also have an unfavourable effect on calcium absorption. Phosphate is an important additive in convenience food, fast food, soft drinks and processed cheese. Better choose fresh foods!

Better in moderation…

Be careful not to eat too many foods high in oxalic acid , such as spinach, rhubarb or chocolate. Oxalic acid binds to calcium, making it difficult for the body to absorb it.

Too much salt and caffeine can also disturb the calcium balance in the body – so it is better to enjoy them in moderation.

TIPS

Moderate strength training…

Is the best way to build bone density in the long term, because it promotes bone metabolism. Regular exercise gives your body a constant stimulus to strengthen your bone structure. In addition, strong muscles help to support the skeleton!

Endurance sports…

Such as walking or jogging also put a certain strain on the bones and thus also contribute to bone density. But always watch your joints!

Sports that are easy on the joints…

Such as cycling or swimming, are of course also healthy and keep you fit. However, they do not help strengthen the bones because they don’t put any strain on them.

Don’t overdo it!

Exercise should be fun and not turn into stress. A moderate exercise programme that is challenging but doesn’t overwhelm you is the best choice. Don’t compare yourself to others, but listen to your gut feeling!

Don’t give up!

Sport and exercise should be as much a part of everyday life as personal hygiene. This will keep you fit and mopbile in the long term!
