We all intend to eat enough fruits and vegetables to get the daily nutrients our body needs. Unfortunately, most of us fall short of that goal, but that’s where vitamins come in. We look to daily supplements to help us make up for what food leaves out. But did you know that taking a vitamin C tablet doesn’t actually give you the same nutrients as an orange does?
The nutrients found in most vitamins are known as primary metabolites, and while they may provide some supplementation, their benefits are limited. When you eat a whole fruit or vegetable you get primary metabolites and secondary metabolites. Secondary metabolites are whole food microflora found in plants that are thriving under healthy conditions.
